GIS: Spatial Distribution of Illegal Accessory Dwellings (Rec Rooms)

Building Permit data from 2005 - 2012 was studied to identify illegal accessory dwellings in Honolulu. I describe methodology at length in a paper i am working on. Below are the map results of my research...

Approx 60% of Illegal Accessory Dwellings are not within designated Ohana Zones. This suggests that the City is losing control over where urban growth is happening.

Comparison of Illegal Accessory Dwellings and Single and Two-Family dwellings, shows legal dwellings are being built on West Oahu, whereas the bulk of illegal dwellings are being built within the urban core.
